COLLECT: “ALMIGHTY AND MERCIFUL GOD, GRACIOUSLY KEEP FROM US ALL ADVERSITY, SO THAT, UNHINDERED IN MIND AND BODY ALIKE, WE MAY PURSUE IN FREEDOM OF HEART THE THINGS THAT ARE YOURS. THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, YOUR SON, WHO LIVES AND REIGNS WITH YOU IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, GOD, FOR EVER AND EVER. AMEN”.
Wis 13:1-9; Ps 18:2-5 and Lk 17:26-37.
The beauty of God’s creation should always proclaim the glory of God. Unfortunately, some of us are sometimes fascinated with created things and therefore we sometimes fail to see beyond creation to the Creator. In fact, this is one area of serious temptation that eventually leads us to sin, and when the Day of the Lord (my end-time) eventually approaches, then I am not prepared like the people of Noah’s and Lot’s time.
During the time of Noah, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, and in a sense, holding in high esteem nature and created things. Similarly, during the time of Lot, people were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building. Yet, some were carrying out their normal daily duties and chores, and others, like Lot’s wife, were attracted to the world and material things, not at least expecting the Day of the Lord, the Day of the Son of Man.
Let us not be like the Materialists who ignore God but believe in their material things. Let us also not be like the Proud who believe they can achieve everything on their own. They use things as their own, without giving them a deeper meaning and without seeing them as gifts from God. Let us be like simple and humble people who see the hand of God in everything.
The natural and created things we see, the water, the wind, the mountains, etc., should always remind us of the Perfect Being, the Creator, who created these things and gave them to us to have dominion over them. God gave us the intelligence to discover Him Who fills everything and to know that He is the end of everything.
Saint Paul has this to say about the above; “For everything that could have been known about God was clear to them: God himself made it plain. For though we cannot see him, we can at least discover him through his works; for he created the world and through his works we understand him to be eternal and all-powerful, and to be God” (Cf. Rom 1:19-20).
Let us remember that created things will count for nothing on the last day – my last day. Am I, or are you, unduly attached to anything/any person in the world? If so, can I or you become free? Stay blessed.

PRAYER: “NOURISHED BY THE SACRED GIFTS, O LORD, WE GIVE YOU THANKS AND BESEECH YOUR MERCY, THAT, BY THE POURING FORTH OF YOUR SPIRIT, THE GRACE OF INTEGRITY MAY ENDURE IN THOSE YOUR HEAVENLY POWER HAS ENTERED. THROUGH CHRIST OUR LORD. AMEN”.
