The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Mary Haruna, has paid a working visit to Kaleo Senior High Technical School to inspect ongoing construction works under a GETFund project aimed at easing overcrowding in classrooms and improving teaching and learning conditions.
The project, funded under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), involves the construction of an eight-unit storey classroom block to support the school’s growing student population and address the increasing pressure on existing classroom facilities.
Upon arrival, the DCE was received by the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics, together with some staff members, who accompanied her to the project site where the contractor was already carrying out setting-out works for the building’s layout.
During her interaction with the contractor, Madam Mary Haruna emphasised the need for strict adherence to quality standards and timely delivery of the project, citing the urgent nature of the school’s infrastructural challenges. She noted that her earlier engagement with school management and visits to existing classroom blocks revealed severe congestion in classrooms, making the completion of the project a priority.
According to her, the completion of the eight-unit storey classroom block would significantly improve the learning environment by providing additional space for students and reducing pressure on the existing facilities. She expressed confidence that the project would contribute immensely to enhancing academic work and overall educational outcomes in the school.
The DCE assured the contractor of the Assembly’s continuous support, stating that her office remains open to address any challenges that may arise during the execution of the project. She also pledged the school’s cooperation to ensure the smooth progress of the work.
In a personal remark, Madam Haruna disclosed that Kaleo Senior High Technical School played a significant role in shaping her career and personal development, adding that she remains committed to supporting the institution as a way of giving back to her alma mater.
The contractor, in response, assured the DCE of his commitment to delivering a high-quality project within the stipulated timeframe.
The DCE also took time to interact with students of the school, urging them to remain focused on their studies and work hard to achieve their life goals. She cautioned against the pursuit of quick wealth, stressing that such paths are often unsustainable and detrimental to their future development.
She further advised female students to take their education seriously, emphasising that society increasingly values women with education and employable skills. She encouraged them to remain in school, pass their examinations, and prepare to contribute meaningfully to their families and future households.
Madam Haruna humorously remarked that modern men are increasingly avoiding partners without skills or education, reinforcing her message that academic dedication and personal development are essential for future success.
Management of the school expressed gratitude to the DCE for her continued support and commitment to improving infrastructure and learning conditions. They, however, appealed for more assistance in future development needs, noting that while they are appreciative, their infrastructural challenges remain ongoing.
They likened their appeal to “Oliver Twist,” indicating that they will continue to seek further support in their quest to improve educational standards at the institution.
