PRAYER: “O GOD, WHO FOUNDED ALL THE COMMANDS OF YOUR SACRED LAW UPON LOVE OF YOU AND OF OUR NEIGHBOUR, GRANT THAT, BY KEEPING YOUR PRECEPTS, WE MAY MERIT TO ATTAIN ETERNAL LIFE. THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, YOUR SON, WHO LIVES AND REIGNS WITH YOU IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, GOD, FOR EVER AND EVER. AMEN”.
Prov 21:1-6,10-13; Ps 118:1,27, 30, 34-35,44 and Lk 8:19-21.
Today’s scriptures offer us many points for our consideration and possible action. This will help us remain faithful to the service of the Lord. Remember Jesus’ reply to the information that his relatives were standing outside: “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it”. We are cautioned by scriptures today not to be too much in a hurry or in a haste to look for our own shortcuts to achieve what we want.
We very often explore our own shortcuts (through wrong and unjust ways, arrogant and dishonest ways, as well as wicked, greedy, gluttonous and selfish ways – ideas from the Book of Proverbs we reflect on) outside God’s plans and ways to make it very fast and quick in life, even if that is not within God’s plan for us, and secondly, because, very often, we do not want to encounter any setbacks, frustrations, challenges, pain and suffering. We sometimes forget that hard work is a virtue and there is certainly no crown without the cross, no Easter Sunday without Good Friday. It must be noted that most of our shortcuts and quick ways to make it in life outside God’s plans will result in inefficiency and frustration. Think seriously about this.
We are advised today to take counsel from the word of God we listen to every day and act on it. Otherwise, we may become betrayers of the word of God and His Church. We should not listen to it and act our own way, or go in our own direction. We will not succeed, and we will not be happy in life, though we may have everything in life. We should also take counsel from other wise and prudent people instead of plunging ahead and learning the hard way at the end.
Let us pray that every day, we allow God’s will to be done in our lives like what Mother Mary did (‘Let your will be done’). May we always let our plans fall within God’s plans, and even if our plans have to be altered by God, we should still give him the chance and allow him to do that, for ‘God’s time is the best’. May we learn ‘to do the proposals and allow God to take the decisions for us’. This will help us learn to wait on God and do things rightly. Stay blessed and good day.

PRAYER: “GRACIOUSLY RAISE, O LORD, THOSE YOU RENEW WITH THIS SACRAMENT, THAT WE MAY COME TO POSSESS YOUR REDEMPTION BOTH IN MYSTERY AND IN THE MANNER OF OUR LIFE. THROUGH CHRIST OUR LORD. AMEN”.
