The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo, Madam Mary Haruna, has praised the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for his unwavering commitment to educational development in the district following the donation and distribution of school uniforms to pupils across the district.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the District Assembly Conference Hall on Monday, June 8, 2026, Madam Haruna described the intervention as a demonstration of commitment, compassion, and confidence in the transformative power of education.
According to her, the presentation of school uniforms was not merely a charitable gesture but a strategic investment in the future of the district's children. She emphasised that education remains one of the most important tools for community development and social transformation.
The DCE noted that the Speaker, a native of the district, has over the years distinguished himself as a dependable partner in the educational advancement of Nadowli-Kaleo. She observed that for nearly three decades, Rt. Hon. Bagbin has consistently supported educational initiatives that have positively impacted countless pupils, teachers, and schools throughout the district.
Madam Haruna expressed the gratitude of the people of Nadowli-Kaleo to the Speaker, stating that his numerous contributions have created opportunities for many young people who might otherwise have been deprived of access to quality education.
She further explained that while school uniforms may appear simple, they play a significant role in improving educational outcomes. According to her, the cost of uniforms remains a challenge for many families, and the intervention would help reduce financial burdens, improve school attendance, boost pupils' confidence, and promote a stronger sense of belonging among learners.
The DCE, however, used the occasion to draw attention to challenges facing education in the district, particularly the unsatisfactory performance of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) over the past four years.
She called for collective action from all stakeholders, stressing that improving educational standards cannot be the responsibility of the government alone. She urged parents, teachers, traditional authorities, religious leaders, development partners, and pupils to work together to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Madam Haruna emphasised the need for stronger supervision, discipline, and commitment to quality education to ensure that every child in the district is allowed to succeed.
The DCE also commended the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Hon. Anthony M. Sumah, for his efforts toward educational development in the constituency. She acknowledged his contributions to improving the welfare of communities and encouraged him to continue championing initiatives that advance education.
Similarly, she praised the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, for his support and commitment to the development of education and other sectors within the region.
Madam Haruna further expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the various educational policies and interventions being implemented across the country to improve access, equity, and quality education, particularly for children in underserved communities.
She urged teachers to remain dedicated to nurturing and guiding pupils, while encouraging parents and guardians to take an active interest in their children's education.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the DCE reminded the pupils that the uniforms symbolised society's confidence in their potential. She encouraged them to wear the uniforms with pride, remain disciplined, study hard, and strive for academic excellence.
The event brought together the Speaker of Parliament, the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, the Upper West Regional Minister, education stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, security personnel, members of the media, and other distinguished guests.
The distribution of school uniforms forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to education and support vulnerable pupils across the Nadowli-Kaleo District.
