The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo District, Mary Haruna, has toured several examination centres across the district to motivate and encourage final-year students currently sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

As part of the exercise, the DCE visited Kaleo Senior High Technical School, one of the major BECE centres hosting candidates from different schools within the district.

Addressing the candidates, Madam Mary Haruna urged them to approach their papers with confidence and determination while avoiding every form of examination malpractice. According to her, cheating in examinations could have serious consequences for their future academic and professional lives.

She cautioned that examination malpractice not only leads to the cancellation of examination papers but could also bring candidates into conflict with the law, thereby affecting their prospects.

The DCE further advised students to see invigilators and supervisors not merely as officials enforcing examination rules, but as parents and mentors who genuinely desire their success through honesty and hard work rather than dishonest means.

Madam Haruna also used the opportunity to caution teachers and examination officials against engaging in any illegal activities during the examination period. She encouraged teachers to support candidates in every lawful and appropriate way possible, but stressed that they should not compromise their professional integrity through involvement in examination malpractice.

She noted that securing employment in recent times has become increasingly difficult, and therefore teachers should not risk losing their jobs through acts that undermine the credibility of the examination process.

“The duty of the teacher is to adequately prepare students in the classroom before the examination, not to aid malpractice during the exams,” she emphasised.

The DCE concluded by urging candidates to excel in the BECE and help improve the academic performance and ranking of the district within the Upper West Region.

Her visit formed part of efforts by the district assembly to encourage discipline, academic excellence, and integrity among candidates across the district.
