The ongoing military attack against Iran, effectively an Israel-led war, backed by Trump is exposing the deep flaws of international diplomacy and the impotence of global institutions. Civilians, including school children, are being killed daily, yet the United Nations and other international bodies remain eerily silent. Their inaction is not only disappointing, but it is dangerous, sending a signal that powerful nations may act with impunity while weaker countries suffer.

This conflict, declared solely by the Trump administration, has little support even among Americans themselves. Polls indicate that a significant majority of the U.S. population opposes the war, yet it continues unabated, with civilians in Iran paying the highest price. Schools, hospitals, and public spaces are being targeted, and hundreds of innocent lives have already been lost. The disconnect between the government’s aggressive posture and the people it claims to represent exposes the war as both unnecessary and reckless.

Meanwhile, the United Nations, charged with upholding international law and protecting human life, has offered nothing beyond standard expressions of concern. No decisive action has been taken to restrain the use of overwhelming military force, protect civilians, or demand accountability. This silence mirrors its earlier inaction during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, reinforcing a perception that global governance is powerless against stronger states.

The selective approach to justice is glaring. While Iran is targeted under the pretext of nuclear threats, though no evidence shows it is on the verge of producing nuclear weapons, Israel maintains its own stockpile without consequence. This double standard undermines the credibility of international bodies and casts doubt on their commitment to universal human rights.

For smaller and poorer nations, the consequences are frightening. If global institutions fail to act against aggression by the powerful, what protection exists for those who cannot defend themselves? The world is witnessing a disturbing precedent: that military might can override diplomacy, morality, and international law.

The international community cannot afford to remain passive. The deaths of school children and innocent civilians demand more than statements—they demand decisive action. The UN and other global organisations must reclaim their authority, uphold justice impartially, and protect the vulnerable. Silence in the face of such devastation is not merely a diplomatic flaw—it is a moral failure that endangers humanity itself.
