The President of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Prof. Damasus Tuurosong, has been honoured as the Most Respected CEO of the Year at the 8th Ghana Industry CEO Awards, held on Thursday, 27th November 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The prestigious ceremony attracted notable dignitaries, including the Country Director of the World Health Organisation, the Deputy Country Director of the United Nations Development Programme, and more than 15 diplomats, comprising ambassadors and high commissioners. The event acknowledged outstanding leaders across sectors such as manufacturing, retail, civil society, and public institutions.

Prof. Tuurosong received the award for Educational Advocacy and Private Schools Development, a recognition of his distinguished leadership in the non-state education sector and his efforts in positioning GNAPS as a major voice for quality education, expanded access, and favourable policies for private schools in Ghana.

Behind this honour is a remarkable journey shaped by humility, sacrifice, and an unwavering passion for youth development.

Prof. Tuurosong’s educational mission began with simple remedial classes for students striving to improve their SSSCE and WASSCE grades. His clear explanations, dedication, and mastery of the subjects transformed the academic trajectories of countless learners who later gained admission into tertiary institutions across the country.

As word spread, students—both graduates and those still in secondary school—flocked to him for support. What started as a quiet remedial effort soon grew into the bustling academic hub known as TUPASO. Students travelled from near and far, trusting that every lesson was a worthy investment in their future.

Motivated by a desire to make a more lasting impact, Prof. Tuurosong eventually established the now-renowned TUPASO School in the Upper West Region. What began as a private primary school has grown into a flourishing educational institution with one of the best-performing Senior High Schools in the region and beyond. With continued support from government and philanthropic partners, many believe TUPASO is poised to evolve into a tertiary institution in the near future.

At a time when many young professionals seek the comfort and opportunities of major cities, Prof. Tuurosong took the opposite path. He left Accra and returned home to contribute directly to the academic development of his people—an act of selfless sacrifice rarely seen today.

Despite the demands of lecturing at the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in Wa and managing his private school, he continued to invest in educational development by writing English language books for both teachers and students. His widely acclaimed Grade A series, available in various editions, remains one of Ghana’s most effective supplementary English Language resources.

His life’s work—teaching, leadership, advocacy, and authorship—reflects a deep and consistent commitment to uplifting the youth.

As we celebrate him today, let us encourage our own people to always think about home first and contribute to the development of where we come from before the rest of the world benefits from our expertise. Prof. Damasus Tuurosong has paid his dues, and we cannot thank him enough for all he has done for the youth in the area of education.

The people of Nadowli-Kaleo proudly salute their illustrious son and pray for long life, strength, and continued success as he pushes the boundaries of educational excellence.
