The Nadowli-Kaleo District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Mary Haruna, has lauded the collaborative efforts of ActionAid Ghana, GIZ-Reach, and the European Union (EU) as she officially handed over a newly completed solar-mechanised borehole with an overhead tank to the people of Nanvili. The ceremony, held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, also marked the commissioning of 12 additional boreholes fitted with hand pumps for 12 other beneficiary communities under the Strengthening Community Resilience Through Community Action Plans (CAPs) project.

Addressing community members, development partners, and traditional authorities, Hon. Haruna expressed deep joy and solidarity, describing the water facilities as a major step toward improving health, dignity, and development in the district.

She emphasised that access to clean drinking water remains essential not only for reducing waterborne diseases but also for ensuring that children stay in school and that women—who often shoulder the responsibility of water collection, are relieved of excessive physical burdens.

The DCE highlighted the broad reach of the project, noting that 14 additional communities in the district are set to benefit from afforestation, agroforestry, and soil conservation initiatives. She further announced that the communities of Zang and Samatigu are earmarked for irrigation facilities, with work already progressing steadily.

Hon. Haruna praised ActionAid Ghana for its “tireless efforts in championing community development” and commended GIZ-Reach for its “generous funding support” which has made these interventions possible. She noted that the Nadowli-Kaleo District is privileged to be among the districts with the largest number of communities—29 in total—benefiting from the CAPS project.

Describing the newly commissioned boreholes as more than mere physical structures, she said they represent the “power of partnership, the strength of community action, and the hope for a future where no household is left behind.” She underscored the District Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the proper maintenance and sustainability of the facilities, pledging close collaboration with community leaders to safeguard the investment for future generations.

The DCE stressed that community resilience is best achieved through collective action, urging government institutions, development partners, and local communities to continue working together.

She reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to supporting initiatives that uplift livelihoods, promote social justice, and strengthen resilience in the district.

The event concluded with assurances that the new water facilities would bring lasting relief, improved health, and greater productivity to all beneficiary communities.
