The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo, Hon. Mary Haruna, has urged community volunteers to take a leading role in promoting inclusive education as the district officially opened its Initial Facilitators Training for the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) programme.
Speaking at the ceremony, the DCE described the initiative as “a beacon of hope for the children of Nadowli-Kaleo District,” noting that it aims to break persistent educational barriers and ensure that no child is left behind. She emphasised that the CBE programme “aligns strongly with global efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education for all.”
The 10-day training programme has brought together 30 volunteers from different communities across the district. Hon. Haruna commended them as “torchbearers of change” and essential partners in extending literacy to underserved and hard-to-reach communities. She applauded their dedication, describing their involvement as a reflection of grassroots commitment to empowerment and social transformation.
Encouraging the participants, she urged them to embrace the sessions with “curiosity, passion, and a shared vision,” highlighting that their work has the potential to ignite dreams and unlock the hidden potential of young learners who have been excluded from formal schooling.
Hon. Haruna also reaffirmed the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly’s unwavering support, stating that the Assembly remains determined to build “a literate, empowered, and prosperous district.”
Borrowing the words of Nelson Mandela, she reminded the volunteers that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” urging them to wield that power with purpose and commitment.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed call for partnership, dedication, and sustained community engagement as the district intensifies efforts to transform the educational fortunes of its children.
The CBE training is expected to reinforce community-driven learning and accelerate progress toward inclusive development in the district.
