In 2008, a group of visionary men, the late Dr Evans Akangyelewon Atuic, Mr Godfrey Aboalik, Mr Clement Ajaab, and Mr Emmanuel Azenaab—came together to form a football club with a purpose far greater than just playing the game. Their mission was to use football as a tool to fight against alcoholism and drug abuse among the youth of Wiaga and its surrounding communities. From that noble dream, Wiaga United Football Club was born.

Over the years, Wiaga United FC has grown into a symbol of hope, discipline, and opportunity for many young people. The club’s vision of nurturing not only football talent but also responsible and educated youth has distinguished it from many others. Its policy of “No School, No Football” has become a guiding principle that ensures players value education as much as their sporting ambitions. This initiative is commendable as it promotes holistic development, preparing players to excel both on and off the pitch.

Wiaga United FC's achievements speak volumes about the founders’ foresight and commitment. The club has successfully produced talented players who have gone on to feature for top teams in Ghana and beyond, including King Faisal, Tamale City, Liberty Professionals, and even Le Havre in France. One of the club’s most remarkable moments came when it reached the Round of 32 of the MTN FA Cup, facing the legendary Asante Kotoko at the Bolgatanga Stadium. It was a proud moment for the entire Builsa community.

Despite its numerous successes, Wiaga United FC continues to face challenges such as limited means of transport, feeding, and camping facilities for players. Yet, through determination and community support, the club remains steadfast in its mission. The management continues to support brilliant and talented players to further their education, ensuring that football remains a pathway to a brighter future.

As football becomes an increasingly lucrative venture across the globe, Wiaga United FC stands as a beacon of opportunity for young people in the area. The club’s example proves that with discipline, education, and commitment, football can open doors to national and international success.

To the current and future players of Wiaga United FC, the message is clear: stay committed, stay disciplined, and work hard. The road to success may be long and rough, but with perseverance, your dreams can become a reality. Remember, combining education with football not only sharpens your mind but also equips you to navigate the professional world with confidence and intelligence.

The founders of Wiaga United deserve great commendation for their visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the youth. Their initiative continues to inspire a new generation to choose discipline over indulgence, education over ignorance, and purpose over distraction.

In light of the club’s noble goals and its challenges, The Trial News appeals to philanthropists, benevolent individuals, and non-governmental organisations, especially those within the Upper East Region and beyond, to come to the aid of Wiaga United FC. Your support, whether in the form of equipment, transport, feeding, or educational sponsorship, will go a long way in strengthening the club’s foundation. Such a gesture will not only make the team more formidable but will also help sustain its mission of supporting young players to pursue their education while nurturing their football dreams.

Wiaga United FC is not just a football club, it is a movement shaping the future of youth through the beautiful game.
