The Jawara Foundation has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to youth development in the Nadowli-Kaleo District with the donation of sports equipment to four senior high schools as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sports, education, and healthy living among young people.
The donation, which comprised five volleyballs and four sets of jerseys, was presented to Kaleo Senior High Technical School, St. Basilide Technical Institute, Sombo Senior High School, and Takpo Senior High School. The Foundation has also assured that the remaining senior high schools in the district will soon benefit from similar support.
The latest intervention forms part of the Foundation's broader mission to improve sporting activities across the Nadowli-Kaleo District and the Upper West Region by providing schools with the necessary equipment to nurture sporting talents and encourage active student participation in athletics.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Foundation, the Coordinator, Mr Francis Angbabora Baaladong, emphasised that the initiative was purely a social intervention aimed at empowering the youth and should not be viewed through any political lens.
"There is absolutely no political ambition attached to what the Jawara Foundation is doing," Mr Baaladong stated. "Our mission is to ensure that young people have access to the sporting equipment they need to develop their talents, stay physically active, and realise their full potential."
He explained that engaging young people in sports plays a vital role in steering them away from juvenile delinquency and other social vices that often derail their future aspirations.
According to him, sports instil discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership—qualities that contribute significantly to both personal growth and academic excellence.
Mr Baaladong further added that the Foundation firmly believes that when students are provided with opportunities to participate in organised sporting activities, they become healthier, more focused, and better positioned to succeed in their academic pursuits.
He reiterated that the vision of the Foundation's Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Jawara Banye, is to ensure that every young person in the district has the opportunity to excel through education and sports.
"Mr David Jawara Banye has the youth at heart. He desires to see young people remain physically fit, excel academically, and develop their talents through sports. The Foundation remains committed to supporting them in every possible way to achieve their dreams," he added.
The Foundation's support for youth development extends beyond the donation of sporting equipment. Earlier, following the successful Inter-District Circuit Games held in Kaleo, the Jawara Foundation rewarded the circuit that emerged overall champion with GH¢4,800 to organise a celebratory gathering for the students whose outstanding performances earned numerous trophies during the competition.
The event brought together both students and teachers in recognition of their dedication and achievements, reflecting the Foundation's belief that excellence deserves recognition and encouragement.
The Jawara Foundation believes that rewarding hard work and investing in sports development not only motivates successful athletes but also inspires other students to participate actively in sports while remaining committed to their education.
Over the years, the Foundation has consistently supported both basic and senior high schools across the district through educational and sporting interventions, earning recognition as one of the organisations making meaningful contributions to youth empowerment and community development in the Upper West Region.
With plans already underway to extend similar support to other schools in the district, the Jawara Foundation continues to demonstrate that investing in young people today is an investment in a stronger, healthier, and more productive future for the Nadowli-Kaleo District and Ghana as a whole.
