The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) – Upper West Chapter has organised a one-day Professional Development and Leadership Workshop for its zonal, district, and regional executives in Wa.

The novel initiative was aimed at updating zonal executives on the latest developments in the union while rekindling the spirit of effective leadership and professional commitment among members. The programme brought together key leaders from across the region to exchange ideas, share experiences, and chart a new path for strengthening the association.

During the workshop, various regional executives took turns to make insightful presentations on how leaders at different levels of the union could work collaboratively to promote growth and unity within PRETAG.

In his keynote address, the Upper West Regional Chairman of PRETAG, Mr Alhassan Abdallah Salifu, presented a comprehensive overview of the association’s history, organisational structure, and newly introduced policies. He emphasised that PRETAG, which evolved from the former CCT, continues to pursue the welfare and professional development of pre-tertiary teachers across the country.

Mr Abdallah Salifu also used the occasion to launch the “Operation Bring One Member Every Month” initiative — a membership drive designed to expand the union’s base and strengthen its presence across schools in the region. He encouraged executives to lead by example, remain committed to their professional duties, and support the association’s mission of improving the conditions of teachers.

He explained that the new policies being rolled out are designed to enhance members’ welfare, improve communication channels, and foster accountability within the union. He further noted that PRETAG, being a relatively young association, has a lot to offer its members and deserves the full support of all teachers at the pre-tertiary level.

Participants commended the regional leadership for organising such a timely and impactful event, describing it as a wake-up call for renewed dedication and professional excellence. They said the workshop offered valuable insights and skills that would enhance their leadership roles and improve service delivery in their respective zones.

The participants also expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to attend the programme, noting that such initiatives help equip them with innovative ideas and keep them abreast of current developments in the teaching profession. They therefore called for the regular organisation of similar workshops to continuously build their capacity and strengthen their leadership skills.

They further commended the regional leadership for its foresight and commitment in initiating the programme and urged them not to let such an important initiative fade away.

Zonal executives also used the opportunity to seek clarifications on issues affecting members in their jurisdictions and expressed optimism that the union’s new direction would address many of these concerns.

The event ended with a renewed sense of unity and commitment among participants, who pledged to work together to promote the vision and mission of PRETAG in the Upper West Region and beyond.
