Kaleo Senior High Technical School has once again etched its name in the records of excellence by emerging victorious in the National Public Speaking Competition (NPSC) for the second time. This remarkable achievement is not only a proud moment for the school but also a testament to the power of discipline, dedication, and academic determination.
The National Public Speaking Competition, under the patronage of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, S. K. Alban Bagbin, has become one of the most influential platforms that amplifies the voices of young people across Ghana. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and freestyle presentations, contestants from Senior High Schools across the country demonstrate confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills. To win this competition even once is no easy feat, but to claim the crown twice speaks volumes about Kaleo SHTS’s rising stature.
Behind this extraordinary success is the unwavering commitment of the teachers who tirelessly groomed, guided, and motivated the students. Their mentorship, late-night rehearsals, and unflinching belief in the students’ potential laid the strong foundation for victory. The students themselves rose to the challenge. Although this year’s contest met them unexpectedly, catching them off guard with its timing, they still delivered outstanding performances across all rounds. Once again, they proved that brilliance is not the preserve of only the so-called “best schools.”
Kaleo SHTS may not be counted among the traditionally famous schools in the region, but their discipline, which earned the school the nickname “Prison Yard” — has become their secret weapon. The culture of order, hard work, and focus instilled on campus continues to yield remarkable results.
Interestingly, although the name “Prison Yard” scares some parents into thinking their wards should not attend such a strict school, many other parents fervently desire to have their children placed there. Some even go to great lengths to secure admission, fully aware that the same discipline that intimidates others is exactly what shapes students into responsible, high-performing individuals.
This win is yet another clear indication that excellence is not achieved by reputation but by commitment to growth, discipline, and continuous learning.
Commendation must also go to the management of the school for creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning. Their strategic leadership, provision of academic support systems, and prioritisation of student discipline and welfare have played an undeniable role in this triumph.
The writer, a proud former student of Lassia Tuolu Senior High School, confesses with a blend of admiration and competitive spirit that he was “impressively disappointed” that his former school could not clinch victory in this year’s contest. With a playful yet stern warning, he assures Kaleo Senior High Technical School that they will not have it easy next time. This promise stands firm.
The irony, however, is unmistakable and perhaps even humorous: the writer is now a teacher at Kaleo SHTS, the very school he is vowing to challenge on behalf of his alma mater. This simple twist beautifully affirms the spirit of “old boysim” cherished by many for their alma mater.
Finally, heartfelt appreciation goes to the brilliant minds who conceived and continue to sustain the National Public Speaking Competition. Their initiative is shaping confident thinkers, nurturing powerful orators, and preparing Ghana’s youth for national service in leadership, advocacy, and intellectual engagement.
As Kaleo SHTS celebrates this second glorious victory, may they continue to rise, inspire, and outperform institutions that believe excellence resides only in fame. Kaleo SHTS has proven once more that hard work, discipline, and resilience will always speak louder than pedigree.
Congratulations to the entire Kaleo SHTS family! Keep shining, keep conquering, and keep lifting the flag of the Nadowli-Kaleo District high.
